Walk-in Doctor in Point Cook
Sometimes you cannot wait for next week. Point Cook Doctors is appointment based, but the clinic always welcomes and accommodates walk-in patients. If you need a walk-in doctor in Point Cook, you can come to Shop 137/5 Main Street during opening hours.
Walk-ins are welcome. A walk-in visit may attract a private fee, so ask reception.
Booking ahead is usually quicker
Because the clinic runs on appointments, the fastest way to be seen is often to book online or call (03) 7300 7780 first. Appointments can be made for the same day when they are available, and reception can tell you what is open. If you think you need longer than a standard consultation, say so when booking.
When you walk in
Give your name at reception and explain briefly why you need to be seen. The clinic prioritises emergencies and urgent appointments, so someone who arrived after you may go in first if their need is more pressing. New patients should bring:
- photo ID
- a Medicare card, plus any DVA, Pension or Health Care Card
- a list of current medicines
Common reasons people use a walk-in doctor in Point Cook
People often walk in for problems that came on suddenly:
- a fever, sore throat, cough or chest infection
- vomiting, diarrhoea or a urine infection
- a sprain, minor cut or burn
- a rash or bite
- a medical certificate for work or study
Ongoing care such as care plans, detailed health assessments or procedures need a booked appointment so enough time is set aside. The acute care page explains the kinds of illness and injury the GPs see.
Making the most of a short visit
Standard consultations are up to 15 minutes, so it helps to come with your main concern clear in your mind. Write down when the symptoms started, what you have already tried and any medicines you take. If you have several unrelated problems, the doctor may ask you to book another time for the less urgent ones so each gets proper attention.
Fees for walk-in visits
Standard consultations are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card. A walk-in visit may attract a private fee, so ask reception when you arrive. Without Medicare, a standard consultation is $70, paid on the day by EFTPOS, as there is no cash on the premises. Procedures attract fees, and the fees page lists them.
When not to walk in
Call 000 for chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, signs of stroke such as a drooping face or weak arm, heavy bleeding, or a serious injury. These need an ambulance or a hospital emergency department. When the clinic is closed, ring 13 SICK (13 7425) for after-hours home visits and phone consultations, or call healthdirect on 1800 022 222 for nurse advice. The healthdirect symptom checker can also help you decide what kind of care you need.
