What is bulk billed
Standard consultations are bulk billed for Medicare card holders. Care plans are written in GP appointments too, for example a mental health care plan or a plan for a long-term chronic condition. Reception can confirm how a plan appointment is billed when you book, and Services Australia’s page on mental health care explains what Medicare covers under those plans.
Everyday visits that are bulk billed
Most reasons people see a GP are standard consultations: a sudden illness, a script review, a referral, a medical certificate or a follow-up on results. If you have a valid Medicare card, none of these should cost you anything.
Published procedure fees
Procedures attract a fee. Examples from the clinic’s fee table, shown as the total fee, then the Medicare rebate, then what you pay:
- Implanon insertion: $130, $74.75, $55.25
- Intrauterine device (IUD) insertion with or without removal: $280, $155.15, $124.85
- full skin check with photography: $200, $80.10, $119.90
- ingrown toenail removal: $360, $297.25, $62.75
- iron infusion: $250, $80.10, $169.90
- Q fever immunisation: $150, $80.10, $69.90
The complete table is on Patient Info and Fees.
Fees with no rebate
A few items have no Medicare rebate at all, so the full amount is yours to pay: taxi, driver’s licence and pre-employment medicals are $140, and the yellow fever vaccine is $160.
Checking a cost before you book
Some other services may also carry a private fee, so ask reception when you book. Services Australia notes that if you have more than one service in a visit, you may not be bulk billed for everything. Telling reception the reason for your visit is the simplest way to avoid a surprise.
Paying for a procedure
Payment is due on the day of the appointment, by EFTPOS, as no cash is kept on the premises. Accounts not settled within 14 days attract a late fee of $15 for each week after that. Cancelling within 2 hours of your booking, or not attending, attracts a $30 fee.
A Hoppers Crossing bulk billing doctor for the whole family
Children and adults alike are bulk billed for a standard consultation when they hold Medicare. Without Medicare the fee is $70. Opening hours are 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on weekends and 10am to 3pm on public holidays. Phone reception on (03) 7300 7780 or book online.
Common questions
Why does a procedure still cost me when there is a rebate?
The rebate is the part Medicare covers. The out-of-pocket amount in the fee table is the difference between the total fee and that rebate.
Is my care plan appointment bulk billed?
Ask reception when you book. Mention the plan so the right length of appointment is made, and reception can confirm how it is billed.
Do my children’s vaccines cost anything?
Vaccines on the National Immunisation Program are free for people eligible for Medicare, and a standard consultation here is bulk billed. Some other vaccines, such as Q fever, have a fee.
Will my pathology or specialist referral be bulk billed?
The clinic cannot guarantee that outside providers bulk bill. Ask the provider about their fees.
