Your Regular Doctor for Sanctuary Lakes
Sanctuary Lakes is a housing estate within Point Cook, so the clinic is in your own suburb. It is not inside the estate: Point Cook Doctors is on Main Street, about 5 km from the estate by road. If you want a regular doctor for Sanctuary Lakes, this is where you would come.
This page is about settling in as an ongoing patient rather than visiting once.
Where the clinic sits in Point Cook
The estate has its own shopping centre, Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre, and the Sanctuary Lakes Club golf course on Point Cook Road, but no Point Cook Doctors clinic. From the estate the route follows Sanctuary Lakes North Boulevard, Point Cook Road and Dunnings Road onto Main Street. It is about 5 km, or around 7 minutes outside peak times.
Becoming a regular patient
Seeing the same practice over time means your history, medicines and test results are in one place. To start, fill in the new patient form before you come, or arrive at least five minutes early to complete it. At the first visit, expect the doctor to ask about past illnesses, operations, allergies, family history and vaccines, so the record starts complete. Bring:
- photo ID
- your Medicare card
- any DVA, Pension or Health Care Card
- a list of medicines you take, and recent letters or results if you have them
Keep your phone number and address up to date with reception. The clinic may send SMS reminders about preventive care such as immunisation, cervical screening, heart checks and diabetes checks, and you can ask not to receive them.
Choosing a regular doctor for Sanctuary Lakes
The doctors have different backgrounds and interests, from women’s and children’s health to chronic conditions and pain medicine. Read the profiles, then ask for the same GP each time you book. Continuity matters most for ongoing problems such as chronic disease, mental health and regular health checks. If you see a specialist, ask them to send their letters to your GP here so the record stays complete.
Registering for MyMedicare
MyMedicare is a free, voluntary way to register with your regular practice and name a preferred GP. To be eligible, you generally need two face-to-face visits recorded with the same practice in the previous 24 months. Registration gives access to longer Medicare-funded telehealth consultations with your GP. The clinic invites patients who consider it their preferred practice to register, and reception can help you get started.
Hours and billing
Weekday hours are 8am until 8pm, and weekends 9am until 5pm, with shorter public holiday hours of 10am to 3pm. As a Medicare card holder you are bulk billed for standard consultations; procedures attract fees. To make your first appointment, book online or phone (03) 7300 7780.
Common questions
Is the clinic in Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre?
No. The clinic is in the Main Street shops of Point Cook, a short drive from the estate.
Can my whole family register with the same practice?
Yes. Under MyMedicare, parents or guardians and children can be registered at the same practice if one of them is eligible and registered. A parent registers a child under 14.
What if my preferred GP is booked out?
You can wait for their next free time or see another doctor at the clinic, who can see your history in the practice record.
Do I have to register for MyMedicare to be a patient?
No. It is voluntary, and the clinic notes you can leave at any time without affecting your Medicare rights or benefits.
