Asking for a female doctor near Altona Meadows
The clinic has several female GPs, each with her own interests. The female GP page introduces them. When you phone the clinic or book online, let reception know your preference and they can tell you who is available. If your preferred doctor is booked, you can choose a later time or see someone else.
Cervical screening
Under the National Cervical Screening Program, women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74 are invited to have a Cervical Screening Test every 5 years. You can choose to collect the sample yourself or have the doctor collect it, and the GP can talk through which suits you. The cervical screening page explains how it works at the clinic.
Other women’s health care

The women’s health page gives the overview.
Preparing for your visit
A little preparation makes a women’s health appointment more useful:
- note the date of your last period and how regular your cycle is
- bring the name of any contraception or hormone treatment you use now or have tried
- write down symptoms you find hard to raise, so you can simply hand the list over
- if you have more than one concern, say so when booking so enough time is set aside
Once you are a patient, the clinic may text you when screening or other preventive care falls due. Tell reception if you would rather not receive these messages.
When it cannot wait
Healthdirect lists severe pain and uncontrollable bleeding among the reasons to go to a hospital emergency department. If you have either, or you are pregnant and something feels seriously wrong, call 000 or go to hospital straight away.
Costs and opening hours
A standard consultation is bulk billed, provided your Medicare card is valid. Procedures such as IUD and Implanon insertion attract a fee, and the amounts are published on Patient Info and Fees. You can come in until 8pm on weekdays, between 9am and 5pm at weekends, or from 10am to 3pm on public holidays.
Common questions
Do I need a referral to see a female GP?
No. You can book any GP directly, and asking for a woman doctor does not need a referral.
Can I book my teenage daughter in with a female GP?
Yes. Mention the preference when you make the booking, as you would for yourself.
Should I mention it is a procedure when I book?
Yes. Tell reception what it is for, such as an IUD insertion, so the right appointment is booked and you can ask about the fee.
Can I see a female doctor for a phone appointment?
You can ask. Phone consultations suit discussions where no examination is needed, and the doctor calls on the day rather than at a set time.
