Weekend Doctor in Point Cook
Illness does not wait for Monday. If you need a weekend doctor in Point Cook, the clinic at Shop 137/5 Main Street is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 5pm.
It is also open on public holidays from 10am to 3pm, so long weekends do not leave you without a GP.
Weekend and holiday hours
- Saturday: 9am to 5pm
- Sunday: 9am to 5pm
- Weekdays, for comparison: 8am to 8pm
- Public holidays: 10am to 3pm
If you are not sure the clinic is open on a particular holiday, phone (03) 7300 7780 before you set out.
Booking a weekend appointment
The clinic runs on appointments, so book ahead where you can. You can book online through HealthEngine at any hour and pick a Saturday or Sunday time, or call during opening hours. New patients should arrive five minutes early. If you will be more than ten minutes late, ring reception, as you may need to be rebooked.
Common reasons for a weekend GP in Point Cook
- a fever, sore throat or chest infection
- a child who became unwell overnight
- a minor cut or wound that needs checking
- a urine infection or rash
- a script that has run out
The acute care page covers the illnesses and injuries GPs see.
What to bring
- your Medicare card, plus any concession or DVA card
- a list of your medicines and allergies
- for a child, their Medicare details and green book
- photo ID if you are new to the clinic
Weekend visits are billed exactly as weekday ones are.
Scripts and regular medicines
If you have run out of a regular medicine, bring the packet or a photo of the label so the doctor can see the name and strength. Bring any repeat prescriptions you still hold, too. For a new problem, the doctor may need to examine you before prescribing anything.
Pathology on weekends
The onsite pathology collection centre opens Saturday mornings, 9am until 12:30pm, and is closed on Sundays and public holidays. If the doctor asks for a test on Sunday, it will usually be collected on a later day.
Children at the weekend
If your child wakes up unwell on a Saturday or Sunday, book a weekend appointment rather than waiting for Monday. Bring a note of their temperature readings and any medicines given, with times. A fever in a young baby, a child who is hard to wake or one struggling to breathe needs emergency care, not a GP appointment.
When the clinic is closed
Outside opening hours, ring 13 SICK (13 7425) to arrange an after-hours home visit or phone consultation. For health advice from a nurse at any time, call healthdirect on 1800 022 222.
When to go to hospital instead
Healthdirect lists reasons to go to an emergency department, including chest pain or tightness, severe pain, any symptoms of stroke, breathing problems, uncontrollable bleeding, loss of consciousness, a severe mental health concern and fever in infants. For any of these, call 000 or go straight to hospital rather than waiting for a GP appointment.
