A Family Doctor for Seabrook

Point Cook Doctors does not have a clinic in Seabrook. Families looking for a doctor near Seabrook are welcome at our Point Cook clinic, which is about 4 km away.

A family GP can see everyone in the household: a newborn, a toddler who needs vaccines and a school-age child with a fever.

From Seabrook to the clinic

Seabrook is in the City of Hobsons Bay, just across the council boundary from Point Cook. The trip is about 4 km, or around 4 minutes in the car outside peak times, via Point Cook Road, a short stretch of the Princes Freeway, the Forsyth Road exit and Boardwalk Boulevard.

Babies: the first weeks

A GP can see your baby for a 6-week check alongside your own postnatal review. In Victoria the free Maternal and Child Health service also offers 10 check-ins at key stages from birth to school age, and you can use both: the MCH nurse for feeding, sleep and development, and the GP for illness, medicines and anything needing examination. The MCH Line on 13 22 29 is open 24 hours.

Childhood vaccines

Vaccines on the National Immunisation Program schedule are free for people eligible for Medicare, though a health professional may charge for the consultation. At this clinic, the consultation itself is bulk billed for anyone holding a valid Medicare card. If your child has missed a dose, eligible people can catch up for free up to age 20, and the HPV vaccine up to and including age 25. Bring the green book so the doctor can see what has been given. The immunisation page has more detail.

When your child is unwell

Coughs, ear pain, rashes, tummy bugs and minor injuries are all things a GP sees every day. The children’s health page covers ongoing care too, including the 4-year-old check. Weekend hours of 9am to 5pm, plus weekday evenings until 8pm, help when school or work fills the day.

Go to a hospital emergency department or call 000 for breathing problems, a seizure, loss of consciousness or fever in a young infant.

Older children and teenagers

As children grow, the reasons for a visit change: sports injuries, acne, mood, school stress and catch-up vaccines. Young people aged 14 to 17 can register for MyMedicare and give consent themselves, without a parent. For younger children, a parent or guardian registers them.

Booking a family doctor for Seabrook children

If two or three children need to be seen, tell reception when you call (03) 7300 7780 so enough time can be set aside, rather than squeezing everyone into one short visit. You can also book online.

Common questions

Can I book my child in with a particular GP?

Yes. Several doctors list children’s health among their interests. Read their profiles on Our Team and ask for that doctor when you book.

Seabrook is in Hobsons Bay. Can we still be patients in Point Cook?

Yes. Families from Seabrook are welcome at the Point Cook clinic, even though it sits in a different council area.

Is the GP 6-week check the same as the MCH visit?

No. They are separate appointments. The MCH nurse visit is part of the free Victorian service, and the GP check happens at the clinic. You can do both.

What if my child gets sick when the clinic is closed?

After hours, ring 13 SICK (13 7425). In an emergency, call 000.

What should I bring to my child’s appointment?

Your Medicare card with your child listed on it, the green book, and a note of any medicines they have had and when.
